More Manchester-London flights

TRAVELLING to London have become easier as more flights from Manchester to Stansted Airport are launched.

Eastern Airways has increased its Monday to Thursday services between the airports from three to four flights a day.

Weekday departures will go from Manchester Airport at 7.15am, 10.20am, 2.20pm and 5.50pm with a 55 minute flying time.

All passengers flying with Eastern Airways are able to use its dedicated fast track security channel at Stansted to avoid queues. Fares start from £49 one way including taxes.

The airline operates 800 flights each week from airports right across Europe.

For such a short INTERNAL flight it is not necessary as there is perfectly a good railway system in place - i.e. Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston. Euston is more centrally located than any of the airports so the travelling gtime, I bet, is actually shorter!!!

I say shorter because....

Travelling time from home to Manchester Airport. have to be at the airport at least 1 hour before takeoff (even more "travelling time"), 55 minutes in the air, then between 40 minutes and 1 hour from Stanstead to Central London = at least 3.25 hours travelling time

Train:
Travelling time from home to Manchester Piccadilly (via Bolton station) - about 25 minutes, then by train to London (the fast train takes only 2 hours!!!), Euston to central London (already there!!!) - total travelling time about 2.75 hours

Plus no messing around airports with ID Cards or passorts or going to check-in desks etc... means LESS STRESS and CHEAPER!

This is the sort of needless flight that needs to be looked at more than anything else! It should be more taxed than short-haul flights that actually leave the UK!

Give me the train anyday!

Here's why, for the business traveller:

1st Class Virgin open return to London :£360

VLM standard class (no business/economy classes) return to London City - around £160 to £200; London City is on the DLR with a very efficient link into the tube at Bank/Monument.

Travelling to either Piccadilly or teh Airport is about the same journey time (or longer if you endure the train-in)

Stansted makes less sense because it is so far out. Heathrow/Gatwick too.

The real answer is only to travel if absolutely necessary; most "meetings" can be avoided.

I'm so pleased that amos can now see the bright lights of London.

Both the above posters make valid points. I too travel to London regularly and resent paying the high prices charged by Virgin.

What is really needed is a true high speed train link with affordable fares.

(But Lord Luncan, if you really want to be clever then travel the night before you need to be in London. You can then take advantage of Saver or or other cheap train fares - which can range from around £50 to £100 for first class. Stay at a hotel in the Docklands area for around £70. There will be no need for an early start the next day and you can arrive at your meeting refreshed after a good night's sleep and your total outlay is even less. Win-win situation).

The late Midlands Mainline (forgot who replaced them) used to have a great service between Manchester Piccadilly and London St Pancras - I know it was a replacement whilst the WWML was being done up, but the company wanted to operate it full-time but were refused by the government as it would create too much competition between the two cities (how can Virgin and Midland Mainline be too much competition???? - at the moment it is a monopoly!).

I used to use that service a lot at the weekends due to them having 1st class with breakfast for only GBP10 on Saturdays - return ticket!!!!

Cow head most of your posts are boring and insulting to other people who try to make a point on a news item.

Just because this site is not moderated is not a licence to insult people.

Would suggest you grow up and learn to live and let live or shut up
