CHRISTMAS lights were switched on across Bolton in a flurry of festivity.

New lights, funded by the Farnworth Area Forum, were switched on in Brackley Street, Farnworth, and a Christmas tree has been lit up near the Dunscar war memorial.

The big Farnworth switch-on took place on Monday evening and shoppers were treated to mince pies and mulled wine.

Cllr Jim Lord said: “It was a great night and despite the weather we had a good crowd. I think everyone really appreciated what we have done.

“The carol singers from Harper Green School were great and Cllr Spencer was in good voice too. We also had the Farnworth and Walkden Brass Band, whose players were fantastic as usual.

He added: “It’s great to get some Christmas lights back in Farnworth and they will be even better next year.”

The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Norman Critchley, was on hand to switch on the festive lights on the tree by Dunscar war memorial, in Blackburn Road, on Sunday.
