A POP-UP restaurant will appear overnight in Bolton as part of the Food and Drink Festival.

Harvey Nichols will occupy the former Olive Press building in Nelson Square during the festival, which takes place over the last weekend in August.

Chefs from the awardwinning Second Floor, in Harvey Nichols, Manchester, will take up residence in the vacant restaurant.

Harvey Nichols’ hospitality manager Michael Currie said: “The Bolton Food and Drink Festival has really gone from strength to strength over the past couple of years.

“We have been involved with the Manchester festival but this year we decided to cast our net further afield to the other great food festivals in the region.”

Pop-up restaurants are commonplace in London and New York.

The concept sees a restaurant “pop up” in a disused commercial premises for as little as a weekend, or up to one or two months.

The Second Floor Restaurant, Bar and Brasserie is already established as one of Manchester’s top eateries.

The Harvey Nichols Supper Club, a concept which currently runs in the Second Floor Brasserie, will operate on all four days of the festival, from Friday, August 26, to Monday, August 29, with head chef Stuart Thomson and sous chef Matthew Horsfield both on hand.

Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Cliff Morris, said: “To attract a brand like Harvey Nichols to the festival is fantastic. It shows confidence in the town and how much our festival has grown since it started in 2006.”

An estimated 75,000 visitors came to the four-day festival in 2010.

Two star Michelin chef Michael Caines is opening this year’s festival. Celebrity chefs The Hairy Bikers, James Martin and Gino D’Acampo are also making appearances.

Tickets for cookery demonstrations can be bought from the Albert Halls box office on 01204 334400. To keep up to date with the latest festival news, search for Bolton Food and Drink Festival on Facebook or #boltonfoodanddrink festival on Twitter.
