A NEW name will appear on the ballot papers of many voters this year.
The You Party has been launched by a group of Bolton people with an interest in politics.
It is fielding six candidates in Bolton, promising a new approach to local government.
The party was officially registered as a national party with the Electoral Commission in February, 2007 after 18 months of planning. It is using Bolton as a testing ground to gauge the public's reaction and, if successful, will begin to field candidates further afield, starting in areas such as Wigan and Bury.
The You Party's manifesto claims: "The You Party does not have a party whip', so all those elected in the name of the You Party genuinely represent you and vote according to your wishes, whether or not they personally agree.
"The You Party is not a one issue party, we encompass all issues, and we do so without any preconceived agendas. It is you who sets the agenda and you who make the decisions.
"Our pledge is to represent you and be openly transparent. The You Party supports open public council meetings and denounces those held behind closed doors. The You Party stands for honesty, transparency and democracy."
