The Left List is another new party making its debut in this year's council elections. The party has been formed by the Respect movement and combines trade unionists, human rights activists, peace campaigners and environmentalists.

The Left List's only candidate in Bolton is Neil McAlister. He hopes to unseat Labour's Rosa Kay in the Rumworth ward. The only other candidate contesting the seat will be Lib Dems' Wendy Connor after Tory candidate Zahid Raja pulled out.

Mr McAlister is a senior Unison steward, chairman of Bolton Stop the War Coalition and an experienced mental health worker.

He spoke to teachers at a rally at Bolton central library during last Thursday's NUT strike.

He said: "For the last 11 years, New Labour has made the working lives of millions of people absolutely miserable, with increased workloads and attacks on working conditions and pensions.

"They have tried to squeeze the will to resist out of the workforce."

I sometimes think the extreme left just exist to moan. I just wish people in this country realised how **** lucky they are. Why do you think the world owes you luxury and leisure? Why are you absolutely miserable that you have to work a bit harder for your substantial pay packets? Boo hoo.

Why don't you fight for people who really do suffer from a lack of human rights? Around the globe there is poverty, disease, and a lack of protection from those who perpetrate violence and exploitation. What are you downtrodden victims doing about that?
Oh by the way, I think the Bolton News have the Left List and the You party logos mixed up.
