FORMER Bolton Wanderers' manager Sam Allardyce yesterday hit out at the treatment of Whites' fans in Madrid.

Big Sam said he had family friends at the game who were injured, including one who had been beaten by police and needed two brain scans.

He said: "The fans were brutally attacked by the law for no reason.

"A lot of my relatives and friends went out to watch the game and some have had to be treated in hospital. I know they are not troublemakers.

"One of them has had to have two brain scans."

"Many fans spent a lot of time and money following the team and didn't even get to see the game."

He now wants the club and the Football Association to take a stand against the behaviour.

Allardyce, who has returned to his home in Bolton after leaving Newcastle United, said it was disappointing the violence had detracted from the Wanderers' performance.

"It was a great performance and a great result. I hope they can repeat it in Lisbon," he said.

But he is now worried the impact the violence will have on fans attending future games in Europe.

"The violence will be a big consideration to fans thinking about going to the Lisbon game.

"Their families at home will worry about them when they go to watch the club abroad," he said.

"The fans are really important to the players when they play abroad.

"The fans that came to Marseilles and Portugal made a real difference," he added.

A tad difficult to to boycott the Spanish stuff as I live in Spain, unless someone wants to send me food packages of meat & pot pies and steak and kidney puddings!

Unfortunately I can't see anything happening other than a rap on the wrist for A. Madrid due to no proper crowd segregation.

Well said Sam, but you're still not getting your old job back.

Btw, we shouldn't be trying to hurt Spanish businesses, it is the police who are guilty, not ALL Spaniards.

Agreed! I'm not going on hunger strike because of this. Sadly, so many years of English hooliganism has created a certain mindset in the Spanish police force.
El marisco esta muy buena en San Lucar. Un saludo desde Catalunya.

I like a bit of shellfish.......
Or is my Spanish a bit rusty??

I will be writing to my MP, the Spanish embassy, UEFA and FIFA to express my disgust at this behaviour by the Spanish police.

My parents have retired out to Spain and I have spent quite a bit of time out there over the years. Most of Spanish people I know will be ashamed of this state sanctioned police brutality. Behaviour like that was supposed have stopped when Franco died.....

Well said Sam! I hope the Spanish Police get what’s coming to them.
The Racist fans are always in the media at Grand Prix and football events, so when will enough be enough? When a fan is killed by Cop or when the Spanish fans all dress as monkeys when our black players are on the pitch.
They are fifty years behind Europe and FIFA needs to make an example of them. I am disgusted with the treatment of the fans and nothing more than a ban from European football and the Grand Prix will be enough to get it into their racist over zealous thick skulls that their behaviour is not welcome in this society.

How can they carry the title police? It means 'Keepers of the Peace' !!!
You never see the British Police using baton charges at the most volatile grounds in Britain therefore their actions are criminal and the whole unit that night should be suspended and a public enquiry set up.
I have heard that they were searching people and certain items, cash and valuables were not being returned.

I am so glad we won so the next lot of fans did not have to suffer going to that hell hole.

No Spanish holidays for me anymore!!!

Dogs the lot of them.

The Spanish have always hated the British, and will always look at ways to get at us. Even resulting in the Police over riacting like they usually do with the English people. I know English fans have a reputation, but as shown in Germany during the world cup, by working with our police, they can I.D. the hooligans and deal with them accordingly, then true proper fans can watch the game with no problems, but no, the spanish, like the French, Turks, Greeks, Italians, etc just tarnish us all with one brush. At the end of the day where ever we are in Europe we are hated, and will always have problems.

wohmu, Sorry I thought it was Zimmy asking me out and this was not directed at you.

Are Zimmy, King Eric and Eric all the same people? That have split personalities and are a danger to the public?
