Do you think you have been sold counterfeit alcohol? Tell Us in the Comment box below
TRADING standards officers are warning the public to be on the look-out for fake vodka being sold in Bolton.
Investigators carried out raids on shops in the Deane and Little Lever areas this week after customers were sold counterfeit Glen's Vodka.
One woman, who asked not to be named, told The Bolton News she had bought two 70cl bottles at a shop in Deane on Monday night.
She said: "I went to the counter and asked the lady for two bottles. She reached up to the shelf, but as she did so a man, who was also behind the counter, said something in his native language and then she picked up some bottles off the floor.
"I didn't think anything of it, but when I was drinking it at home I remembered an article I had seen in the paper about fake vodka being sold in Leigh.
"I noticed a mis-spelling on the bottle and phoned my neighbour, who had the other bottle, to tell her.

"I had drunk quite a bit of it, but fortunately I don't think it has harmed me."
No counterfeit alcohol was discovered during Tuesday's raids.
However, trading standards officials say Glen's Vodka can be easily identified because the bottle, made by Allied Glass Containers, should have a small AGC logo around the base.
The counterfeit vodka may also have "Ayrshire" mis-spelt on the front label, with the letter "i" missing.
Richard Lindley, head of Bolton trading standards, said: "The bottles which we received complaints about were counterfeit. We are warning people to look out for these bottles as it seems they are available in Bolton. The contents have not yet been analysed but it could be very dangerous and should not be drunk."
To report anything suspicious, telephone trading standards on 01204 336586.
There has been a lot of talk on the news today about hiking up the price of alcohol and restrictions on drinking. If this is done, there will be a lot more counterfeit alcohol on our streets.

Surely it is racist to clearly talk in a language that all parties dont understand when all talk english,if this was myself I would have explained it was extremely ignorant, and walked out of the shop never to return.

Be nice to know what in fact was his "native language". Russian (obviously being such vodka experts)? Polish (ditto)? Albanian (maybe not...)? Ahhhh - Deane Road.....guess that doesn't leave too many candidates then.
And I agree it is rude in the extreme to prattle on in some foreign gibberish in front of a paying customer. I'd have given him a severe tongue lashing in best BBC and never darkened (!) his door again.

"Fake vodka" how does that work then.
I think you'll find the only concern the Government have is that the revenue they receive doesn't match that of the expensive vodkas.
This vodka will be every bit as good as the proprietary branded vodkas.
Trading standards should be there to help the public not pandering to the Governments every whim in protecting the major companies, DIAGEO for example who watch the small manufacturers persecuted whilst they benefit from Government departments ridding the streets of competition.
Come the revolution...

There was a batch of fake vodka laced with methanol a while back. You happy drinking that because Trading Standards have called off their dogs due to allegations of pandering to the Government?

So you'd drink vodka with excessive levels of methanol because you think TS are just government puppets.
Pretty nasty stuff methanol. Each to his own though.

Trading standards are claiming that they are still in the dark about the source of counterfeit vodka. A sure fire indication that foreign criminals are responsible.

[bold]I wonder how much longer readers will be able to comment on this news article?[/bold]
The Bolton News is always keen to remove threads once racial issues arise.
Some say this is because Newsquest wish to remain politically correct. I say it’s more likely that the company fears upsetting its customers and its profits. And when I say its customers I don’t mean Bolton News readers, I’m referring to the newsagents that Newsquest supply. In this multicultural England that we are now all part of, an ever-growing number of local newspaper sales outlets are run by proprietors of “foreign” origins. With this in mind the Bolton News readers should ask themselves the following… is our local newspaper being PC (politically correct) or PC (profit conscious)? After all, in business it never pays to upset the customer, especially with comments about race or creed.

I used to look foreward to reading and discusing these topics but not anymore, the posts are getting worse with everyone name calling, and most people being accused of racist tendencies, its getting really boring, which is a shame,as there are quite sensible and sometimes funny posters, most of the threads are being closed down due to these childish rants,so please guys call a halt to it,and agree to differ so that we can all enjoy the banter again.

Get your quotation correct next time, I said county/provionce of NORTH Holland!
Again here is your georgarphy lesson, as you seem to have failed your last test!!!!!
The Netherlands is often called Holland. This is formally incorrect as North and South Holland in the western Netherlands are only two of the country's twelve provinces.
The 12 provinces being:
North Holland
South Holland
-collectively known as the Randstad
plus
Flevoland
Friesland
Drenthe
Groningen
Gelderland
Limburg
Utrecht
Zeeland
Overijssel

Helen Chivers of the Met Office said the origin of the smell had been narrowed down to the area of Europe roughly bordered by Holland, Germany and Belgium. Why do you keep digging a great big hole that you can't get out of?

Funny that's what I said - Originated in Germany - as far east as the smell starts and went via The Netherlands, Belgium (to get through Belgium it also has to go through Luxembourg) so how am I digging a hole for myself when I said the facts and you just do not know your geogrpahy!!!
You are the ones that said the pong is all over England - I never know that England just consisted of the southern counties as there is no pong here in the north!!!!

Germany being the most Eastrern country of the three!! I cannot help it if you do not know your Geography!!!!!
Anyway as previously stated Holland is not a country but part of 2 provinces/counties - so what you say is null and void as HOLLAND, alone, does not exist!

I also like the fact that you are insulting me on other threads on here - is this the sign of a sane person who is winning an argument or is it a sign of someone losing an argument and, basically, acting like a baby and throwing his dummy out of the pram by trying to spread the argument to other threads!!!!
Again, you have been proved wrong and then you start your insults.
Where are your bully boy brothers - Boris and Zimmy. They do not seem to be here to back up your false claims??????
