Bromley pupils were among those from four schools across the country who won an environmental competition.
Ravenswood Secondary School, in Oakley Road, won the competition by entering poems, stories and drawings expressing their feelings about the environment.
Their winning entries were sealed in a time capsule and buried in a corner of the botanical gardens in Birmingham.
The competition was organised by environmental charity Groundwork, Esso UK and Learning Through Landscapes.
More than 3,000 schools entered the competition with only four selected for the ceremony in the Midlands.
The competition is one of a number of events being organised as part of the Trees of Time and Place campaign, which encourages youngsters to preserve the environment by writing about it.
The initiative also encourages schoolchildren to collect seeds and grow a tree to celebrate the new millennium.
Esso UK manager Martin Tims said: “The simple idea of collecting seeds to grow a tree appealed to people of all ages and Trees of Time and Place had strong support from children and educational initiatives.”
