9:48am Monday 14th January 2002

Over £450,000 has been awarded by the European Social Fund to help more Croydon people with learning disabilities access training and employment through the project Individual Workplace Solutions.

The successful project is a partnership between Status Employment, a charitable employment agency which supports disabled people to find and maintain jobs, and New Directions, part of Croydon social services based at Cherry Orchard Day Centre which offers training and support. The project has additional input from Croydon College.

Councillor Paula Shaw, cabinet member for social services, said: "The project will empower an increasingly disadvantaged group of people."
