PLANS to reward residents who report fly-tippers have won new backing after household waste was found illegally dumped in a Chesham park.

Mike Kennedy, clerk to Chesham Town Council, was appalled when he spotted a fridge, central heating parts and other rubbish abandoned in the playing fields off Botley Lane, near Ley Hill, Chesham.

The rubbish was later removed by the town council at a cost of about £200 to the tax-payer.

Mr Kennedy said: "Fly-tipping is an increasing problem throughout the district. We have to do something about it, take some positive action to get it off our land."

Two weeks ago Chiltern District Council began looking into a scheme to give cash rewards of up to £400 to residents who give information leading to the successful conviction of fly-tippers.

Cllr Don Phillips (Con, Little Chalfont), leader of Chiltern District Council, said drastic action was needed to stop fly-tippers.

Mr Kennedy said he would contact police after finding an addressed envelope in the rubble.
