THE grounds at a Westhoughton primary school have been transformed into a fun outdoor play area.

St George’s CE School struck it luck on the lottery and won £10,000 to improve its grounds so the children could “express themselves through play in a safe, supportive and creative environment”.

The transformation has led to the introduction of an Active Kids lunchtime club for reception and key stage one children.

Groups of children develop their personal, social and emotional skills through a variety of sporting and team building activities.

The children are rewarded with a sticker and wristband for completing the programme.

School leaders say the lottery money has “enriched” the school days for the children.

Madison Astbury, a pupil in Year Two, said: “I really love playing hopscotch with my friends, it is fun.”

Classmate Joshua Scrivens added: “I like playing games with my friends on the train, I like being the driver.”
