POLICE have arrested a suspected thief for taking decking from a community “dipping platform” at a beauty spot.
Volunteers and residents were left devastated when thieves ripped up the wooden platform from Eatock Lodge in Daisy Hill last week.
Youngsters, who enjoy pond-dipping, have been unable to go on the platform since the theft because it is too dangerous.
A man was arrested by Bolton South Neighbourhood Policing Team on suspicion of stealing the decking, which was worth hundreds of pounds. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Friends of Eatock Lodge feared they would have to raise funds to make replace the stolen decking, but Anthony Axford Ltd, of King Street, Farnworth, threw the group a lifeline by offering to donate decking at no cost.
Bolton Council has funded contractors to fit the decking.
People with information about the theft can call police on 0161 8565608 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
