A SCHOOLGIRL provided afternoon tea for 50 dogs to celebrate raising £10,000 for animal rescue charities by selling biscuits.

Entrepreneurial Scarlett Berry, aged 10, also ran 5km while being pelted with paint in a special charity run, raising £250.

The following day, assisted by mum Sarah Dunscombe-Berry, the Westhoughton youngster nearly doubled that sum with a special afternoon tea.

The events were planned to mark Scarlett’s achievement of raising £10,000 for animal rescue charities since she started selling dog biscuits for them when she was aged eight.

Now, MP Julie Hilling has invited the Bury Grammar School pupil to the Houses of Parliament as a reward, with Scarlett’s parents also organising her a trip to a rescue centre in Ireland during the October half-term.

Mrs Dunscombe-Berry said: “Scarlett absolutely loved the run, which she did in 48 minutes in the end.

“The afternoon tea was brilliant as well, and Scarlett loved it when we revealed the two surprises to her.

“Julie has even given her free seats in the public gallery for an afternoon session in parliament.

“We will take her down to London for the day during half-term, and maybe see a show and do some shopping.

“She has nearly raised £11,000 now and is not stopping.”
