MORE than 1,000 homes have been left without electricity this morning after a massive power cut.

Electricity North West say that 1,093 properties in Westhoughton and Aspull have been affected, with engineers now on site to resolve the issue.

Power has now been restored to many homes, but others have been told it may take until 2pm.

An update on the electricity supplier's website said:  "This fault is due to damage to our equipment. Our engineers are aware of the problem. Our team is now on site and working to restore your supply.

"We have restored as many customers as possible by alternative means."

It adds: "We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the interruption to your supply and our engineers will work to restore your power as soon as possible."
