ROADS around a Westhoughton industrial estate were cordoned off following a gas leak this afternoon.

Firefighters were called to a road outside Wingates Industrial Estate at about 1pm when a gas tank became loose as lorry turned a corner.

The area around Church Street and Long Lane was cordoned off while the crew from Horwich made the area safe.

The tanker was carrying liquid petroleum gas for cars when the fixings on the tank become loose as it turned into the road up to the estate.

Firefighters made the cylinder safe and used water spray to disperse the spilt gas.

A hazardous materials officer and a special rescue attended and removed the tank.

No one was hurt in the incident and the area was cordoned off for around two hours.
