A WESTHOUGHTON teenager could be set for stardom after landing a spot in an upcoming US TV show.

Mitchell Halliday, aged 18, will appear in American Beauty Star, which pits 12 contestants from across the globe against one another to achieve the dream of a becoming a celebrity stylist.

The show will be hosted by international supermodel Adriana Lima, and will air on Lifetime TV on Thursday, September 21.

Former Westhoughton High School student Mitchell will star in ten hour-long episodes after beating off stiff competition from across the globe in the selection process.

“I found out about the casting of the show in November 2016 and I sent over so many interview tapes and it paid off.

“Filming was amazing, but so tiring. We filmed for three weeks, sometimes from 5am until 11pm at night. All that while being very jet lagged since the time zone is eight hours behind, but the adrenaline carried me through.”

Mitchell and his fellow contestants will be mentored by celebrity stylist Sir John and judged by leading beauty industry professionals, with the overall winner receiving a $50,000 cash prize and a spot on the beauty team at one of Teen Vogue’s editorial shoots.

Despite a modest start to his beauty career, Mitchell has continued to hone his skills, and has showcased them on social media, amassing a following of over 85,000 users on Instagram in the process.

“I got into the makeup world when I shaved my eyebrows off in school and then had to start drawing them on. There was no way I was going to school with no eyebrows!”

He now harbours ambitions of going right the way to the top of the industry, and is hopeful that American Beauty Star will prove to be the catalyst for that.

“I can't wait for the show to finally air. I can't wait to see something I've created and worked for on an American TV show.

“It's a dream I never thought I'd be able to achieve. But now that I've achieved that, I feel like I can do anything, just with hard work and the right timing.

“I got kicked out of X Factor as I used to sing and I really thought that was the end of it but it was just the start of something new.

“My ultimate ambition is to travel the world and teach makeup. I’d love to one day do Beyoncé’s makeup, just like Sir John.

And should he achieve his aspirations, then Mitchell insists that he will make always sure he remembers where he came from.

“I’m Bolton born and bred. It's my hometown and I wouldn't change that for the world. I'm excited for the Americans to see how us Boltonians do it.”
