PLANS to transform a derelict farm into seven homes will be discussed by councillors on Monday night

Westhoughton Town Council will decide whether to support or oppose the proposal to redevelop Ormstons Farm in Wingates Lane.

The site close to the M61 has been unused for a number of years and the hopes the transformation will lead to a ‘far more attractive’ area. All 15 agricultural buildings would be demolished to make way for the homes.

The former pig farm has had a complicated planning history over the past 10 years since. Proposed uses for the property include a Muslim educational building, a hotel, a country club and a golf course. There have also been attempts to change it into an international equestrian centre or into a commercial site.

None of the proposals was implemented but, according to the statement, discussions were held with officers at Bolton Council officers ‘indicated informally’ that turning it into houses would be acceptable.

The meeting will be held in the town hall in Market Street at 7pm.
