WESTHOUGHTON and Blackrod have officially welcomed their new town mayors.

Cllr Arthur Price, who represents White Horse ward on Westhoughton Town Council, was inaugurated as the town's new mayor.

The Labour man, who was leader of the town council for the last year, has taken over from Cllr Samantha Watkin, who held the role since May 2017.

Cllr Price was presented with gifts and was joined at the meeting by his wife Lynne, who will be the town's mayoress while he is in post.

Meanwhile, Cllr Scott Batchelor was made the mayor of Blackrod during the town council meeting on Monday.

The independent representative for North Ward was joined at the annual meeting by his wife Karen, who will be the town's mayoress.

Cllr Batchelor, who lives in Clayton-Le-Woods, Leyland, will be the fifth Independent to hold the office since the council was formed in 1974 and is the second since 1995.
