I AGREE with Paul Hobson, most people - including me - don't need a 4x4 vehicle, but while we still have a choice in this country I will carry on driving my old 4x4.
IN reply to the letter by Paul Hobson, "Most motorists do not need a 4x4" (May 5), I use a 4x4 - a true 4x4 not a small car or a big car classed as a 4x4, a distinction that many people will understand when they come to pay their road tax.
I aGree with your article ("Green Party: Keep fluoride out of water", April 28), which expresses concern that the toxic fluoride chemical may be added to Bolton water supplies.
I read with interest Brian Derbyshire's letter in The Bolton News recently regarding an incident where he and his disabled wife were "left stranded" by a bus driver when only a short distance from the bus stop and clearly indicating to the driver their wishes to board the bus.
I too am not happy with First Bus Drivers. My son is 14 and has special needs. He therefore receives free bus travel and has recently received his new Concession Plus Bus Pass.
I am writing in response to two recent letters featured in your paper regarding First Group drivers in Bolton. Having worked on the buses for several years, but not recently, I feel that I have to defend my former colleagues.
The limerick from Saturday, May 3 is very good. I notice that whoever drew the illustration, did not put any fasteners on Fred's jacket - thus avoiding making the same "error" as the sculptor ie. having Fred buttoning up the female way.
The cleaning up of the flagstones around the Churchgate area was very welcome. Now, can this be extended throughout the town and on to the walls of Bolton.
After the humiliation of the council results nationally, I am reminded of the song by Jilted John - Gordon is a Moron. As a socialist I believe the time has come for Mr Brown to be replaced. Harriet Harman also has to go.
According to information I have received from officers of the council, one of the companies that has been recommended to me by officers for the new Contractors Framework is implicated in an investigation by the Office of Fair Trading. This concerns me greatly.
CAN Peter Johnston, "Don't dismiss climate concerns" (April 29), give any proof, or indeed any sort of checkable facts, that Watford Junction will be under water in a few years' time, or is this another case of Labour's dodgy dossiers?
I READ with astonishment the letter "Gas guzzlers not taking over the road" (May 1). The writer, who hides behind a nom de plume, did not really answer my questions.
I CANNOT understand the point of Andy Smith's letter on the teachers' strike, "Teachers deserve pay and protection" (April 29). Does he think that giving more pay to teachers would improve, let alone eradicate, the dreadful pupil behaviour that he mentions? I fear not.
