Environment scare is a tax con

CAN Peter Johnston, "Don't dismiss climate concerns" (April 29), give any proof, or indeed any sort of checkable facts, that Watford Junction will be under water in a few years' time, or is this another case of Labour's dodgy dossiers?

I respectfully suggest that he checks facts before he starts scaremongering.

Some icecaps are getting thicker, and global warming is now called climate change, and the Stern report was bought and paid for by the Labour Party.

Everything this party does is aimed at taxing people and is nothing at all to do with the environment. As a taxpayer and a motorist, I am sick and tired of being robbed.

I agree entirely with Iain, it's all a money-making exercise and one which the law ensures we can't opt out of. You only have to look at how they added a green tax to air flights and then allowed a new terminal/runway at Heathrow so as they'll collect more of those taxes. They could have restricted air flight simply by blocking the fifth terminal but that wouldn't bring them extra money would it? Same goes for the central London (albeit regularly expanding out of central London), congestion/emissions charge (or whatever they're trying to justify it as this week), which has been shown to have no effect on emissions, little effect on congestion, but a huge effect on the income collected.

It's all about the money and it puts genuine attempts at climate control in a bad light due to consumer aggravation.
