I aGree with your article ("Green Party: Keep fluoride out of water", April 28), which expresses concern that the toxic fluoride chemical may be added to Bolton water supplies.
Fluoride is a Grade 2 poison, which can have harmful side-effects.
Tooth decay has fallen in Europe whether or not their water has this chemical added.
The biggest falls in decay are in Sweden, Netherlands, Finland and Denmark and they do not add fluoride to water!
Studies show that applying fluoride dental products directly to teeth is much more effective than drinking it.
The American Dental Association's website has advised that baby milk powder should not be made up using artificially fluoridated water and that fluoride should not be given to a child under a year old. They recommend bottled unfluoridated water be used for babies' bottles so infants don't receive too much fluoride.
Using bottled water would be expensive for parents.
The York Review of Fluoridation reported that some 48 per cent of children in fluoridated areas suffer dental fluorosis - permanent unsightly tooth mottling, from too much fluoride.
Medication should be prescribed individually, as it goes against all medical ethics to medicate whole communities regardless of need or general health.
