Cost of ignoring Fred's advice

THE Caleb Wrights Mill in Tyldesley was demolished approximately 15 years ago. The demolition contractors got a quote off Fred Dibnah to demolish the chimney stack.

Because of the cost, they decided to tackle the job themselves, which did not go as planned and which resulted in the damage to the Salvation Army hut across in Eliott Street.

That is when I penned a little poem that was featured on Granada Reports recently: Fred Dibnah gave them free advice Because it was so tall But they ignored those kindly words They thought they knew it all.

Fred shook his head and mopped his brow And said "They're bloody barmy"!

So when they pulled those chocks away It flattened Sally Army.
