AS a mother of a young ex-dialysis patient, I know too well how life can be so difficult and unfair for a person like Mike Cottam ("Real Lives", April 25).
"Normal life" is so often taken for granted, and young people usually only have to make decisions about work and socialising.
Health problems are usually not a concern - but not for those youngsters on the transplant waiting lists.

The life restrictions are enormous and can only be fully appreciated by others in similar situations or by those who care for them.
How refreshing it was, then, to hear about Jeremy and Debra Jones, the pub owners who have given Mike the opportunity of furthering his ambition to own his own restaurant, against all the odds.
Their support and encouragement are invaluable because there will be disruption and breaks in continuity which they will have to shoulder. But it is fantastic that they are prepared to do this. Not all employers are so understanding.
My son has been the victim on several occasions of inhumane attitudes, tactics and bullying campaigns at work. Nothing must get in the way of wealth. Profits, it seems, take priority over humanity.
My son soon discovered that being totally honest on application forms resulted in no job interviews.
After his first transplant he started to omit details about his medical history, but there were still hospital check-ups and blips, so it wasn't long before the knives were out.
Despite equality laws, harassment is very difficult to prove. Several years of frustration followed as he waited for the opening he craved for.
Thankfully it arrived and his current employers, like Jeremy and Debra, have given him a future with real prospects. Hopefully employers reading the article had their consciences pricked.
Good luck, Mike. One day, you will be able to enjoy food, drink and holidays and have a nice quality of life.
