Shoe some flexibility to old drivers

I WAS recently served a penalty charge notice because I parked without clearly displaying a valid Pay and Display ticket or voucher I am a disabled driver so I do not need a pay and display ticket.

My dictionary tells me a voucher is a piece of paper such as a receipt or a ticket substituting or exchangeable for cash or goods, so I do not think I should have had one of those on display either!

When I went to the Chorley Street Fines Office, staff said that what it really means is that my Blue Disabled Badge was displayed upside down and the warden could not read the relevant details such as expiry date.

So I paid my fine and came away somewhat bemused Could the council's parking services officials please tell me why the details couldn't be displayed on both sides of the badge so it would not matter which side up it was?

A lot of us older people are not as sharp as we used to be and can easily slip up.

My simple slip-up means the council will snatch £50 off me - or £25 if I can find the money quickly.

So, come on Bolton Council, re-design your blue badges with the number and the expiry date on both sides, and let your disabled drivers or passengers hang on to their £50.

For some pensioners, £50 is nearly half their weekly pension.

Welcome to Labour's world. You could have got away without paying it if you fought hard enough seeing as though the only 'offence' you comitted was to put your blue badge upside down. Its got nothing to do with your badge actually being upside down. This council has seen how much money they can make off us so they do. It's too late now. There's one solution - Clown out! Labour out!

Still though, checking that badge before you get out of your car could be worth £50. Don't give them the satisfaction!!

Well said Tommy, the rules arent difficult to understand. I pay and display regularly and i always take a few seconds to check i'm parked in a legitimate space, parked inbetween the lines, display my ticket clearly and the right way up and then i always get back to the car before the ticket time runs out.

I will not give them the satisfaction of slapping a fine on me for my own incompetance thank you very much. Sad state of affairs i know - we should be used to it by now!!

This is the problem with people in this country. Here. Have a pat on the back from me for "following the rules." The rules are the problem! That is what this letter is all about! Why should someone be fined for having their badge or ticket upside down? I'll tell you why. More money for the leeches at the Town Hall. Jeez! Some people on here are extremely narrow minded.

The only thing that the wardens need to read, is the number on your blue badge. I,ve tried it & I can read the number perfectly easily when its upside down. Maybe the wardens are'nt clever enough to read upside down? or maybe their collars are too tight to let their heads turn?? Whichever way-its a mickey take!

I do agree badboi, the rules are a problem, I just choose to follow them so I don’t give them satisfaction of taking my hard earned cash from me.

I wish to God we weren’t controlled like robots in this country, but maybe that’s one of the many many reasons why people are leaving this country like there is no tomorrow!!
