Why should we like both codes?

REGARDING the story "Rugby is not so tough" (May 1), perhaps the author Neil Bonnar would like to talk to, say, a local amateur rugby league dinner about the arrogance of those who watch the sport.

What is the problem in liking rugby league and not union, for instance, in the same way that a golf fan might not particularly enjoy tennis?

Also, if Mr Bonnar has been to a match recently - and has he? - he would know that it has evolved into a highly skillful game played by very fit sportsmen, not 20-stone blokes, be they from the likes of Keighley or not.

Oh, and Mr Bonnar may have now noticed that his hero, Dwain Chambers, a world class runner, whether he took drugs or not, did not have the stamina to compete in rugby league.

So rugby league players are unlikely to be raised on a diet of beer, are they, Mr Bonnar?

What a patronising article, John Turner Farnworth
