Well done to staff at Withins School

CONGRATULATIONS to those staff and parents at Withins School in Bolton who have protested about the move to make it an academy.

I have a particular interest in Withins as both my children went there and I was myself a governor for four years. In the last few years, after a very difficult period, the school has really improved without being privatised which is what becoming an academy basically is.

But what's this?

The government has set up an inquiry into the effect of the commercial world on children and its own policy of pushing schools to set up academies and link up with businesses.

The head of the inquiry has said the privatisation of schools could be affecting children's education and wellbeing.

So I urge the governors of the school, and all involved, to think again in the interests of the pupils, Eileen Murphy Gorses Mount Darcy Lever
