DOUGIE Freedman has set the bar high for his Wanderers stars as he looks to climb the Championship table.

Although the new Whites chief has only been in office for three weeks, he has already instigated a big shake-up on the training field, resulting in an unbeaten start over his first three games.

Though Freedman accepts his side will be strong favourites against struggling Barnsley at the Reebok tomorrow, he has emphasised to his players that their standards must continue to improve.

After twice losing the lead and settling for a point at Blackpool last week, the Wanderers squad have been brought in for double training sessions to hammer home the manager’s message.

“We’ve crammed in as much, physically and tactically, as we can,” he said. “So it has been a good week.

“The expectancy levels might be higher after Saturday’s game – people expect us to beat Barnsley – but that doesn’t give you a right to do so.

“We are a professional outfit and I’m a professional manager. I approach every game with the exact same detail and I expect my players to prepare properly, pull out the certain details to beat Barnsley and that is what we have been doing this week.”

Freedman has no fresh injury worries and should welcome Keith Andrews and Adam Bogdan back after their international duty for training this morning.

The Whites boss has otherwise been able to work with his whole squad unhampered by a midweek match – and believes he is starting to see his message sink in with the squad.

“This is what the doctor ordered,” he said. “When you come to a new club you need to spend as much time on the training ground as possible.

“It has been difficult but this week we have known exactly who’s here and who’s not.

“There’s no magic wand, the players are going to take time to absorb everything that is being put across, different ideas about attacking and defending.

“They know through training what we are asking of them and I think you can already see in games that there is a discipline and an understanding. It is getting there.”
