No return to Wanderers for Aston Villa defender Warnock
STEPHEN Warnock will not be returning to the Reebok Stadium.
Dougie Freedman says the Aston Villa man’s demands were well out of Wanderers’ scope.
And as reported in The Bolton News earlier this week, West Ham look likely to move for Warnock who is surplus to requirements under Paul Lambert.
“He is looking for a contract we cannot provide,” the manager said. “When we were in the Premier League with the TV money, we could pay the wages.
“But with the revenue we get through the door we have to make sure we spend it wisely.”
Warnock impressed in a three-month loan after arriving in September but went back at Christmas to ponder an offer of a permanent deal with Wanderers on significantly lower terms than his current deal at Villa Park.
Freedman said of the 30-year-old: “With Stephen looking for a longer contract and the money situation, I have got a responsibility to the club to make sure we buy in the market we can afford.
“That age is not value for money. Simple as that.”
