Defensive tweaks needed, sayd Dougie
DOUGIE Freedman believes his side must improve their defensive focus if they are to get themselves into the promotion race this season.
After watching his side dictate games against Leeds United and Sunderland in recent weeks only to concede goals late on, the Wanderers boss admits the results have highlighted some of the deficiencies in their make-up.
“I’ve seen enough about us to think we can win enough games in the Championship but I have also seen a lack of concentration,” he said.
“The real ingredients you need to win every game – that’s what I want to add now. That’s where I want to raise the bar.”
Freedman reckons his side has made strides defensively in their last two outings but still need to improve their decision making under pressure.
“I understand where the issues are and I think a lack of concentration has cost us at times,” he said. “It is probably a hangover from relegation last year.
“We played Sunderland and controlled the game for large parts and then played Leeds and absolutely dominated the match, but lost it.
“We have got to eliminate those key decisions that we are getting wrong and key points in games and things will be fine.”
