Bolton's Lisa Ashton lost in the final of the BDO World Darts Championship on Saturday evening.

For Ashton, who plays in the Bolton leagues and for Lancashire, it was a magnificent feat to reach her first final - the greatest achievement of her career.

The Bolton ace made her mark on the women's world darts scene in some style in the 36th annual World Championships at the Lakeside, Frimley Green, being the player of the quarter-finals and the semi-finals before losing the final by two legs to one to Russian Anastasia Dobromyslova who won the title for the third time and is the dominant force in world ladies darts.

Pride of Bolton Ashton was gracious in defeat, saying: "It got to 1-1 and then the break didn't do me any good. I was happy I got to the final. I'm a bit gutted but I'm really happy I got to the final."
