New-boy Davies ineligible for FA Cup replay

Craig Davies will have at least a few more days to wait before making his Wanderers debut.
The 27-year-old frontman, who joined from Barnsley last week, is ineligible for tonight’s Stadium of Light clash because he signed after the first meeting 10 days ago.
But he would be available for the fourth round if the Whites were to progress to a home tie with Everton having sat out former club Barnsley’s third round triumph over Burnley.
It is a blow for boss Dougie Freedman who says the striker has looked sharp in training after also missing Saturday’s 1-1 Championship draw with Millwall.
The Scot said: “Craig cannot play tonight because it is a replay.
“But he is looking sharp in training and I am very happy to have him.”
Davies is the first permanent signing of Freedman’s tenure and he believes he has the right pedigree at Championship level to be a good addition.
But, while he hopes to add players of similar calibre before the winter transfer window closes, he is not about to rush into the market.
Freedman added: “I could flex my muscles and bring in three of four right now but that only satisfies a majority of the fans for a short period of time.
“If someone with quality and the right pedigree in this division comes up at the right price then I will be looking to move.
“That happened with Craig and will come up again in the next few weeks I’m sure.”
