WANDERERS legend John McGinlay has stoked up the FA Cup fires, insisting Wanderers can claim another Premier League scalp on Saturday.

After dumping Sunderland out of the world’s oldest football cup competition in a third round replay, the former Scotland international sees no reason why Dougie Freedman’s men cannot get a result at the first time of asking against Everton.

And McGinlay reckons Wanderers’ fans could hold the key to unsettling a team that has been held to goalless draws by Swansea and Southampton in their last two outings.

“This is a proper cup tie,” he said. “I’ve spoken with people this week and there seems to be a bit of excitement in the air.

“Those who maybe haven’t been down to the Reebok for a while are thinking they’ll give it another go. There’s something special about the atmosphere for this kind of game.

“That’s great. Everton are bringing a lot of fans, so we’ll need to match them.

“It has been a difficult season, particularly at home. And for some games you’ve been able to sense that even before kick-off.

“We can’t afford for that to be the case on Saturday. Fans need to be at it right away. They have got a job to do too.”
