SLOVAKIAN Under-21 midfielder Jan Gregus says his loan move to a “big club” like Wanderers will help his career blossom.

Gregus moved to the Reebok on a 12-month temporary deal last week from Banik Ostrava after impressing Whites manager Dougie Freedman on international duty.

And the 21-year-old is desperate to prove his worth and help Wanderers climb the Championship table if he is given the chance to stake a claim in the first team.

Gregus said: “I am very happy to be at this club. It is a big club in England and there are some great players here so it is very good.

“I came here in December for the first time and I spoke with the manager.

“He said that he had seen me in a match against Romania for the under-21 national team, so that was the first time that I knew the manager was watching me.

“He has spoken to me since I have arrived about how he likes me as a player and I am very happy to be here.

“I have spent some time with the squad and they have been very welcoming, and, personally, they have helped me settle into life here in England.

“I now want to try to get better every day while I am here.

“Bolton have some very good players and the training facilities are very good so it is great for my growth and development.”

Gregus may be one for the future and Freedman admitted he will initially train with the development squad. But he does not lack confidence in his ability. And being able to operate in a number of midfield roles, he may get his chance in the senior side in the second half of the Championship campaign.

He added: “I tend to play as a defensive midfielder, but I can play anywhere in the midfield, it depends on the manager. Some coaches choose to play me as a defensive midfielder while some choose to play me a bit more offensive, but I prefer to play more defensive.

“I like to get on the ball and pass it to my team-mates all the time, so this is a position I like.”
