WANDERERS Under-14s academy side finished third in the Premier League’s Elite Tournament in London.
Paul Wroe’s youngsters qualified for the two-day national event at the David Beckham Academy after performing well in a North West group that included teams from Manchester United, Liverpool, Everton and Wigan.
They joined nine other sides in the capital from category one academies and had wins over Chelsea (1-0) and Wolves (4-0).
They played out a goalless draw with Southampton and were only narrowly beaten by eventual winners Manchester City (1-0) to finish second in their five-team group.
That set up a third-place play-off against United which they won 1-0.
Nicky Spooner, the Whites’ head of youth development, said: “Every one of the boys was a credit to the club.
“They competed at the highest level against other category one academy players.
“The lads can hold their heads high and the experience of playing tournament football will be a great benefit to them.”
