MANAGER Dougie Freedman believes his senior transfer window signings will add a winning mentality to his Wanderers squad.

The Scot’s first signing Craig Davies was joined by England Under-21 defender Craig Dawson along with deadline-day acquisitions Medo Kamara and Steve de Ridder.

WIth youngsters Jan Gregus and Cian Bolger also on board and only two departures in the shape of Martin Petrov and Benik Afobe it was a profitable window for Freedman.

But it was more about recruiting players with the right qualities rather than just adding numbers, and the Whites boss is satisfied he has achieved his aim.

Freedman said: “I think we did very well.

“We held on to what we wanted to hold on to and we added a couple of players with leadership qualities in Craig Dawson, Steve de Ridder, who won promotion last year with Southampton, and Medo who won his league the last couple of years.

“So we have brought in a couple of players with the right attitude to winning.

“We need people right now with a winning mentality to try to change things.”

Medo was the only one of that trio to pen a permanent deal, from Partizan Belgrade, and Freedman is excited about his future prospects.

His international clearance came through 24 hours after he signed his three-and-a-half-year contract but Freedman felt the Championship clash at Watford the following day was too soon to throw the 25-year-old midfielder in.

But once his fitness has been assessed, Whites fans will be keen to see how the Sierra Leone international adapts to the English game.

Freedman said: “I was tempted (to throw him in) but with Medo just turning up, it would be difficult for him to understand what we are doing.

“He got his international clearance, but it wasn't right for the kid to throw him in straight away.

“He has been training for 22 days since getting back from the winter break.

“We have got to analyse where he is coming from in terms of his fitness levels.”
