Wanderers go for FA Youth Cup historic win

WANDERERS boss Dougie Freedman is hoping the club’s Under-18s can make it two triumphs inside 24 hours and go through to the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup at Nottingham Forest tonight.
The Scot will travel to his former club to watch David Lee and Tony Kelly’s youngsters from the City Ground stands as they bid to become only the second Wanderers side to make the last four in their history, and the first in more than half a century.
And as a manager renowned for putting his faith in youth at previous club Crystal Palace, Freedman is excited about the crop blossoming at the Eddie Davies Academy.
He told The Bolton News: “This week we have been moving meetings and games to make sure the youth team are prepared for tonight’s quarter-final.
“We are all looking forward to it. I will be going to the game and it’s the future of the club.
“Everyone has done a terrific job down there; David Lee is ex-Bolton and been good for myself as well in being welcoming and making every player is available if I need to push them up for extra training.
“He is a very good coach and both he and Tony Kelly have done a great job.
“They got what they deserved at Tottenham and there are one or two players who can surprise a few.
“I am a big believer in producing your own players and I have one eye on that.
“Fans want to see home-grown players coming through.
“I will go out and buy if I need to and there is value for money there but bringing players through is something I was very proud of at my old club and looking to do that here with the help of David and Jimmy Phillips.”
