Ngog 'to play for Cameroon'

WANDERERS front man David Ngog is on the verge of committing his international future to Cameroon, according to national team boss Jean Paul Akono.

Born in France, the 23-year-old has previously played for the French Under-21 side and four other levels for the country of his birth. But the ex-Liverpool striker is yet to be selected for the senior side and qualifies to play for the African nation through his father.

Now it appears, after several attempts over the past four years by Cameroon to secure Ngog’s services, he could be close to an agreement.

Akono told Reuters: “I was lucky to travel to England with the father of the Bolton Wanderers player David Ngog and he agreed to do everything to switch over to join our national team.

“He will apply to FIFA to grant him permission to switch his nationality to Cameroon.

“I must express my gratitude to his father for his assistance.

“If everything goes to plan, he should join the Indomitable Lions very quickly.”
