MATCHDAY LIVE: Wanderers 1 Brighton 0

This live event has finished

4:55pm

Brighton player must have said something to the ref. But who cares? Wanderers win!!

4:54pm

Barnes sent off

4:53pm

Lonergan has the ball. Phew...

4:53pm

Yet another Brighton corner.

4:52pm

Tense doesn't cover it.

4:51pm

Bridcutt volley from the edge of the box rolls just wide.

4:50pm

Four mins added time.

4:49pm

Last minute of normal time.

4:48pm

Little heart in mouth moment for Lonergan as he fumbled a cross. No lasting damage though...

4:47pm

Wheater on for Ngog (Wanderers)

4:46pm

Major let off for Wanderers - Buckley shoots wide from the angle after getting free at the far post.

4:45pm

Last five minutes.

4:44pm

Wasted free kick from Alonso, though. Disappointing.

4:43pm

Great work from Medo - took a handful on Brighton players on there and won.

4:42pm

Brighton fans shouting for a pen as Ulloa goes tumbling. Never in a million years.

4:41pm

Break was on there - corner won, but Spearing and Davies were free if Chungy had picked right pass.

4:40pm

Last 10 mins. Can Wanderers hold on?

4:38pm

Ulloa heads over the top from Vicente's free kick. Should have scored.

4:35pm

Craig Davies on for Kevin Davies (Wanderers)

4:34pm

Chung Yong (foul on Lopez)

4:33pm

Craig Davies coming on.

4:32pm

Twenty minutes left for Wanderers to claim a vital win.

4:30pm

Medo on for Eagles (Wanderers)

4:27pm

El-Abd nods over the top from Lopez's corner. Half chances stacking up for Brighton.

4:26pm

Orlandi on for Bridge (Brighton)

4:25pm

Vicente volleys wide after Dawson had cleared into his path.

4:22pm

Ball sat up nicely for Jay Spearing but he got his shot all wrong. Very finely poised here.

4:20pm

Alonso takes the free kick 25 yards out, but it dips wide.

4:19pm

Wanderers still being made to work very, very hard. Brief respite here as a foul is actually given for Kevin Davies. A real dear diary moment.

4:17pm

Buckley on for Crofts (Brighton)

4:15pm

Spearing shot deflected wide. Shout for handball after Chungy shot cleared off line. Ngog had started it all with surging run - his shot bouncing off the post. So unlucky.

4:13pm

Eagles drags a shot wide from 20 yards out. Had cut in well from the right.

4:12pm

Barnes skies his shot after a quick break from Brighton. Poor corner from Spearing led to the counter.

4:09pm

Lopez goes close with a dipping volley after Ulloa and Dawson had challenged for the ball in the air.

4:07pm

Dangerous free kick swung in by Lopez. Good header by Knight.

4:05pm

4:05pm

Half time league table shows Brighton dropping out of the top six, replaced by Forest. Wanderers three points behind in eighth.

3:49pm

That spells half time. Loads of hard work but most importantly a Marcos Alonso goal separates the two sides.

3:49pm

Threatened to nick another there. Ngog pulled a cross back for Chungy but he couldn't get a touch.

3:48pm

One min added time.

3:48pm

Spearing has been brilliant again in midfield. That must be his 10th block of the half.

3:46pm

Forgive some of these typos today. Can't feel my fingers...

3:45pm

Foul throw by Brighton. Don't get many of those.

3:43pm

Ngog again. Alonso cross from the left touched just wide of the post.

3:42pm

Miskick by El-Abd gives Ngog a half chance. It was from a tight angle but he didn't shoot or cross. Bit of a mess.

3:41pm

Danger cleared again. Dawson header. Again.

3:40pm

Not over yet, though. Brighton have another corner.

3:39pm

That should be atypical. It's one word....

3:39pm

If it gets to 1-0 here it will be an a-typical 45 minutes under Dougie Freedman.

3:37pm

Really important header from Dawson at one end starts a break for Wanderers. Now they have a corner.

3:35pm

Alonso heads wide from Spearing's corner. Seemed to rather surprise him after Ulloa had jumped in front of him.

3:33pm

Brighton do look dangerous with the ball. Bruno just cleared the bar with another effort there - but it came after a 25-pass move.

3:32pm

Danger over. Lonergan makes the claim.

3:30pm

Foul by Spearing on Vicente gives Brighton a handy free kick here.

3:26pm

Wanderers working very hard off the ball here. Brighton excellent in possession.

3:25pm

Wanderers' tails are up now. Could have been so different but for the save by Lonergan at the other end.

3:24pm

Alonso played in on the left – took a couple of touches and drilled a shot into the bottom corner past Kuszczak.

3:23pm

Wanderers - Alonso

3:22pm

Barnes went mighty close there. Thought he had struck foot of the post but looks like Lonergan made the save with his foot.

3:18pm

A gap seemed to open up for Davies there but he opted to squeeze a pass out for Chungy. In  the end, Pratley took a pot shot that drifted well wide.

3:14pm

Lonergan makes a save after Vicente had picked out an unmarked David Lopez. The Wanderers keeper got just enough on his shot to push it out for a corner.

3:11pm

Ulloa heads just over the bar. Think the cross was from Vicente. Lonergan didn't look too worried.

3:11pm

Have now put the word Kuszczak on Ctrl+C, to save myself some time...

3:10pm

Eagles plays Ngog in on the edge of the box, he checked past Bridcutt but didn't get enough power on his shot to trouble the keeper.

3:07pm

Angled ball from the right back, Ulloa got wrong side of Knight but as the Argentine wound up to strike, Knight got back to make an excellent challenge. Close call.

3:05pm

Good cross from Eagles forces Bridcutt into a hurried clearance.

3:03pm

Kevin Davies sets the tone with an early slide challenge on El-Abd.

3:02pm

3:00pm

Teams out of the pitch now. Brighton wearing an awful bright green and blue striped shirt. They look like Adsa employees.

2:58pm

Club chaplain Phil Mason explains in the match programme that flags have been flown at half-mast today to remember the Burnden Park disaster, and a book of remembrance is open at the front of the ground.

2:53pm

I'm sure the temperature has dropped five degrees since I left the house...

2:52pm

Around 1,000 Brighton fans have made the trip. Most people I have spoken to today estimate a crowd of around 18,000.

2:49pm

Today marks the anniversary of the Burnden Park Disaster, of course,  which happened on March 9, 1946. Remembering the 33 people who lost their lives that day.

2:42pm

2:42pm

I'm surprised in that both players started in midweek. Blackburn dropped very deep and it didn't suit Davies at all. Brighton are a little more attack-minded - so hopefully there will be a little more space for him.

2:12pm

Surprised? Just one change from the Blackburn game - Eagles coming in for Medo.

2:07pm

Subs: Lainton, Wheater, Kamara, Holden, C Davies, Sordell, Odelusi

2:07pm

And the team.... Lonergan, Ricketts, Dawson, Knight, Alonso, Spearing, Pratley, Chung-Yong, Eagles, Ngog, K Davies

2:06pm

Definitely out today - Adam Bogdan (groin), Keith Andrews (Achilles), Tyrone Mears (blood infection) and Mark Davies (knee)

2:04pm

"We have a plan in place" insists DF in his programme notes.

2:02pm

And will Eagles start after his winner against Blackburn?

2:01pm

Teams due out soon. Would be surprised if Dougie Freedman changes his back four, but could see a change or two up front.

1:48pm

But for the record, I've been studying the form book and I think we're due carrot and corriander.

1:48pm

Don't spoil the game Colin! That usually keeps us entertained for the first 45 minutes...

1:46pm

1:46pm

Opinion very much split on the subject - but here are a couple of the responses.

1:46pm

The main talking point on my Twitter feed this morning was sparked by a reader's letter (remember those?) that criticised people for leaving games early.

1:42pm

Good afternoon folks. Can Wanderers make it five in a row?

Left a game early twice in my life nd missed goals on both times. Once in the 70s promotion season at home to Burnley when I missed a consolation goal and once at Barcelona when Ronaldinho scored what he regards as his best ever goal. Always stick it out to the (bitter?) end now!
