SHARPLES Wrestling Club will host more than 150 competitors at the Bolton Open Championships on Saturday.

Sharples hopeful George Ramm will bid to add to the Youth Olympic silver medal he won in Australia when he makes the step up to senior level in the 60kg category.

Club and international team-mate Matthew Walton goes for success in the 55kg, while Bolton Wrestling Clubs’ Declan Fisher goes for gold in the 58kg.

Competition director Eddy Kavanagh said: “We have a lot of good potential wrestlers in Bolton and this event is a great chance to raise the profile of wrestling in the town.”

The event takes place at Smithills Sports Centre, Smithills Dean Road, with members of the British Wrestling Association travelling from all over Great Britain to compete.

The weigh-in takes place tomorrow night between 7pm and 9pm, with a two kilogram allowance, before battle commences at 9.30am on Saturday.

Eight to 17-year-olds will wrestle in the schoolboy/girl competition, with ages 16-20 in the cadet and junior ranks, and there are seven categories for senior males – 55kg, 60kg, 66kg, 74kg, 84kg, 96kg and 120kg.

Medals will be awarded for first, second and third positions.
