A BOLTON athlete has proved he is one of the world’s top weightlifter after impressing at a recent event.
Aaron Lohan finished 10th in the European Bench Press Championships in Slovakia.
During the competition he managed to bench press 190kg – just 22kg below his personal best.
He said: “The competition went well especially because I had a few problems heading into it.
“My mum was critically ill in hospital for a few weeks and then I also had difficulties with my shoulder.
“You only get three lifts at this level of competitions so I went for 170kg, 180kg and 190kg.
“In hindsight, I probably could have managed 195kg but I was really happy with my performance.
“I did not expect to do as well as I did.”
Aaron is now taking a break from competition after six months of intense action.
Two months ago, Your Sport reported that the Tonge Moor competitor achieved his highest– ever finish at the IPF World Bench Press Championships in Lithuania.
The 30–year–old, who trains at the Adlington Barbell Club has been in fine form after winning the British Bench Press Championships earlier this year.
He said: “There is the North-West Bench Press Championships in October but I have not decided whether I am doing that.
“If not, I want to try to retain the British Championships in January.
“That would allow me to qualify for the World and European championships next year.”
Aaron is looking for sponsors to help him in his quest for glory z If you want to help then get in touch on 07506 804397.
