GOAL 1-0 Tranmere
Max Power to take.
Wanderers fans getting behind Andy Lonergan. He's at the opposite end for the 1st pen.
Right, for those following I'll try and keep a running score. Bear in mind I'm also writing for the paper and my desk are probably doing their nut right now.
Great run from Youngs, fine ball to find Moritz too - but the Brazilian tried to take on one too many men before Goodison got his block in.
Eaves wrestles the ball from Horwood and hits a shot on the turn from 25 yards. Close.
Moritz whips a ball in, well held by Fon Williams.
Another goal chalked out by the linesman, though no idea why. Eaves turned it in, but couldn't possibly see how he was offside.
Atkinson blasts another one for the home side. Whistled just wide with Lonergan beaten.
Akpa-Akpo curls a shot just over the top. Neat run from Atkinson in the build-up - he has been Tranmere's best player tonight.
Half time. And they are playing Depeche Mode...
One minute left until the swap round.
Another mistake by Knight at the back forces Lonergan into a scurrying save. Not a great night for the skipper.
Moritz has shown some nice touches since he came on. Fine ball over the top for Beckford - and a shot that has just fizzed over the bar.
Not much to add in this first half. Both sides seem to have resignd themselves to penalties.
Another Beckford shot deflected wide. Tom Youngs also on for Hall as a sub.
Extra time it is...
Now Pratley pulls a shot just wide at the other end...
Frantic stuff here - Tranmere whizzing the ball around the Whites box.
Wanderers fans will have a better view - but did Eaves' effort cross the line? Seemed to be a case.
Pratley has now had a goal scrubbed out for offisde. Can't keep up here!
Horwood hooks Eaves' effort off the line!
Attendance: 3,379 (918)
Beckford and Eaves have efforts at goal. Getting closer...
Beckford lashes another one at goal. Takes a deflection and drifts just wide.
Thank the lord for that! Clever ball from Hall that split the Tranmere defence, and it was such a clever touch from Beckford to divert the ball past Fon Williams. Dare I say a poacher's finish?
Tranmere 1 Wanderers 1
Moritz on now for Odelusi - Wanderers throwing everything they have at Tranmere now.
Beckford on for Vela
Brilliant double save by Fon Williams to push away Pratley's effort then scramble away another one by Eaves.
Fantastic block by Mills as Stockton sent a shot crashing in on goal. That looked like it was heading in.
Hall injects a bit of life into the game, driving at the heart of the Tranmere defence before his shot is blocked by Goodison.
Another aimless ball over the top by Baptiste. It has generally been too direct from Wanderers today.
Akpa-Akpro benefits from a lucky deflection but scuffs a shot wide when he should have done better from eight yards out.
Back up and running. No subs from either side.
NIce little stat in the programme. Tranmere have won their last six games played on August 27, stretching back to 1996.
Barely audible above the cheers from around me - but the Wanderers fans booing their players off at the break. Can't blame them.
Zat Knight's mistake let in Cole Stockton, who took the ball really well in his stride, composed himself and curled a shot around Lonergan.
Tranmere 1 Wanderers 0
One minute added time. People around me saying it's the best Tranmere have played in the last six months.
Frustrating doesn't cover it. Seeing more of the ball now but there is precious little to aim at in the penalty area when the ball is worked out wide.
Better possession football from Wanderers in the last couple of minutes but Tranmere still relatively comfortable.
Impressed by Tranmere's left winger James Rowe so far - but that probably tells you more about Wanderers' performance.
Great skill from James Rowe to get past Mears and Baptiste. He squared for Akpa-Akpro who stabbed a shot at goal, palmed round the post by Lonergan. Moments later, Stockton looped a header on to the roof of the net.
Half an hour gone and Wanderers still struggling.
Chris Atkinson blasts well over for Tranmere. Another half chance for the home side, who have been bright so far.
General consensus round the press box is that Hall should have done better there.
Hall brought down on the right by Holmes. Free kick isn't cleared and Hall drags a right footed shot just wide. Good chance.
Eaves sees a voley deflected wide. Good work from Pratley and Mears down the right to make the chance.
Not exactly free flowing from Wanderers so far. Little wonder with all the changes and the last minute withdrawal of Wheater.
Wanderers fans acknowledging the defensive work of Medo with a few loud chants. He's just popped up with a blocked shot at the other end too.
As I say that, a lovely run down the right by Odelusi ends with a cross towards Eaves. Ref rules a high boot against the Wanderers striker.
Few early corners for Tranmere but they haven't troubled Wanderers too badly. No possession to speak of yet, though.
Worrying that Wheater seemed to be getting treatment on his knee before being withdrawn.
Tranmere have been bright in first five mins. Akpa-Akpro has headed over the top from a corner.
Baptiste has started on the left.
Wi-fi switched off for a moment there - but back up and running now!
David Wheater injured in the warm-up... Zat Knight on!
KC and the Sunshine Band belting out on the tannoy. Not a fan...
Elmander starts for Norwich against Bury tonight, for those interested in such things...
Noticed there was a chalkboard outside the local pub advertising that Steve Thompson would be singing live on Friday night. Whether that's the former Wanderers man or the deputy news editor at the Bolton News, I'm not sure.
Just keep repeating "don't let it go to extra time... don't let it go to extra time... don't let it go to extra time..."
Cup fever doesn't appear to have gripped the Wirral. Plenty of empty seats around Prenton Park.
@MarcIles why is Moritz not starting? Fitness can be the reason. If he needs game one give it to him.— @Angles2 27 August 2013
Wondering who will play left back tonight - Mears or Baptiste?
Great to see Josh Vela back out there in his first start since the Cardiff game last season.
Only four subs on the bench for Tranmere - as if to hoighlight their injury and suspension problems.
Hoping Hall and Odelusi are as lively as they were against Shrewsbury. Can't see Tranmere coping with that sort of pace.
@MarcIles Glad you're back!! Just wasn't the same. How many points did we have at this point last season?— @BeejMcGillashaw 27 August 2013
Wanderers playing in their bright new away kit. Not sure my retinas can handle 90 minutes.
Eight changes in all for Wanderers.
Mills and Wheater at centre-back for the first time. Interesting.
Darren Pratley skipper tonight.
Tranmere: Fon Williams, Holmes, Taylor, Goodison, Horwood, Power, Koumas, Atkinson, Rowe, Stockton, Akpa Akpro
Subs: Mooney, Maher, Kirby, Baggie
Bolton subs: Bogdan, Knight, Bolger, Spearing, Moritz, Youngs, Beckford
And there's confirmation... Lonergan, Mears, Mills, Wheater, Baptiste, Medo, Pratley, Vela, Odelusi, Hall, Eaves
Lonergan looks to be warming up more vigorously than Bogdan - looks like he has been given the nod tonight.
Judging by the reports I was getting, Dougie is asking Jay Spearing to play further up the field. I think that is because he uses the ball better than anyone else and might just get more out of Beckford that way. Clearly it didn't work that well on Saturday. Moritz also not quite there fitness-wise.
@MarcIles must win game Marc to get the ball rolling? Didn't quite work after Shrews so what's missing? #bwfc #coyw— @Wildym48 27 August 2013
Even though I am clearly plugging for Wanderers tonight, a tiny part of me wants to see the headlines if Max Power were to score a winner for Tranmere.
@MarcIles not a question but hope we get a win today to kick us into gear and beat Blackburn too. #coywm #dfswa #bwfc— @chris_moorcroft 27 August 2013
@MarcIles When I run in circles, hands waving in the air as I panic about the slow start, should I run clockwise or counter-clockwise? #BWFC— @dougchapinjr 27 August 2013
No sign of Craig Davies so far. A few people have mentioned to me recently that he has been seen in plaster - but there has been no confirmation at all from the club. Hopefully Dougie Freedman will shine some light on the subject after the game (if indeed it proves true).
Significant mention of Warwick Rimmer in tonight's programme notes from Peter Johnson. Never knew he played for the Sierra Leone national team.
Just over an hour before kick-off and some of the players have already been out on the pitch. I've spotted the likes of Lonergan, Spearing, Knight, Wheater and Beckford so far.
Good evening all - welcome to Matchday Live from Prenton Park.
