WATER POLO: Adam Toone represents GB then turns attention to swimming
A TALENTED Tyldesley water polo star has represented Great Britain at the European Championship qualifiers.
Adam Toone played for the under-17s during the summer and was among the goals as GB won two and lost two in a series that included matches against Turkey and Russia.
Despite playing at the highest level in his age group he is set to take a break from the sport to pursue his other sporting love, swimming Dad, Lee, said: “It was a great tournament and Adam played really well, so it was a fantastic experience.
“He has represented GB for the last three age groups and it has been good for him because he has been away to the Ukraine, Holland and Italy.
“He loves the sport but he wants to take a break to focus on swimming because he is in the top dozen at his age group.”
Adam started swimming when he was three and it has been a family affair as his dad also started at Tyldesley Swimming Club when he was three .
Lee said: “Adam did the Learn To Swim programme and when he was 12 he decided he wanted to take up water polo.
“Tyldesley is a great club as they try to push them in the direction the swimmers want to go in. They attend GB camps and work on drills that can help them to get ready for the internationals.
“There are two other girls from the club who are representing GB so it shows the coaches are very good.”
