Andre Moritz wants Bolton Wanderers to bring out the attacking big guns
WANDERERS have been urged to bring out the heavy artillery as they aim to bounce back to form against Leeds United.
Summer signing Andre Moritz has backed Craig Davies to lead from the front when they return to action at the Reebok this Saturday – and also reckons ex-Elland Road favourite Jermaine Beckford will provide the solution to the Whites’ goalscoring problem.
Only midfielder Darren Pratley and defender Alex Baptiste have found the net in the Championship so far this season but the Brazilian ace believes the contrasting styles of target man Davies and a wily poacher such as Beckford could be the right strike pairing to fire Wanderers to that elusive first victory.
“I like Craig Davies – he’s a big fella and I like players who can hold the ball for us and fight,” Moritz said.
“Craig is a massive guy. He’s a tank. Beckford is such a talented player he makes really clever runs, so as a number 10, I like that.
“Beckford is one of those who can stretch the back four and try to catch them off guard.
“I won’t choose one – I will leave that to the gaffer – but if you could choose both it would be great.”
Dougie Freedman should have a full strike force to pick from against Brian McDermott’s side although Chung-Yong Lee’s condition will be checked after he flew in from South Korea yesterday.
David Ngog, Rob Hall and Chris Eagles will also be fighting for a spot in what the club hope will be a fresh start.
Wanderers are under pressure to produce a response in front of their own fans after disappearing without a trace against Blackburn Rovers before the international break.
And Moritz admits it is down to the players to cope with the mental strain of turning round their season amidst such high expectations.
“We just need to start games better,” he said. “When you have that first win you have the confidence to go and put pressure on other teams.
“It is all about the moment. If you are winning and you have a bad shot everyone will clap. But if you are losing 3-0 then people will boo you.
“You need to keep your mind straight. You need to keep your mind straight because you are not a machine and you are not going to win all the time.”
