FULL-TIME: Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1 Bolton Wanderers
A CRAZY five-minute spell of sloppy defending saw Wanderers go down 3-1 on the south coast and remain rock bottom of the Championship and winless.
The Whites went into the clash at Brighton looking for a first win in eight league games and Dougie Freedman made just two changes after the 2-2 home draw with Derby in midweek – Darren Pratley in for Rob Hall and Jermaine Beckford making way for David Ngog.
And they weathered a lot of first half pressure from the Seagulls to snatch a lead against the run of play on 29 minutes.
A short corner from Chris Eagles fed Chung-Yong Lee and his low cross was diverted home by David Lopez with Ngog sliding in at the near post to put off home stopper Tomasz Kuszczak.
It did not appear that the striker got a touch but it did not matter top the 570 travelling Whites fans at the Amex Stadium.
They defended well enough to hold the lead until half time but just seven minutes after the restart they were pegged back.
Jay Spearing gave away a free-kick on the left and when dangerman Kazenga Lua Lua whipped the set-piece in, Ashley Barnes went up with Spearing and it went in off the Whites midfielder.
Worse was to come three minutes later when they lost concentration at the back and allowed a pull back to reach Inigo Calderon and he sent a right-foot shot on the turn beyond a diving Bogdan into the corner.
A mad five minutes was complete on 57 minutes when Will Buckley turned inside on the right to fire home with his left into virtually the same bottom corner to make it 3-1.
Beckford, Hall and Sanmi Odelusi all came off the bench to try and salvage something for Dougie Freedman but only a late flurry looked like troubling Kuszczak again.
