IT was a losing first Wanderers start for Brazilian midfielder Andre Moritz against Huddersfield but he is determined to make amends against Doncaster tomorrow.

It has been a stop-start opening to his Whites career with a succession of injury setbacks hampering his bid to establish himself in the side.

Before Tuesday’s full debut, the 27-year-old had made just eight substitute appearances after switching from Crystal Palace.

But he did score his first goal in the previous home game against Millwall and showed glimpses of his capabilities early on in the midweek defeat.

Moritz concedes, however, a second successive start depends on the decision of a manager in Dougie Freedman who he has the utmost respect for.

Freedman has indicated he could freshen his side up again tomorrow in the wake of the Huddersfield loss.

Moritz said: “I’m doing my best but the gaffer knows what is best for the team as well.

“I can’t just go in there and say ‘I want to play’ – I have to try my best to show I should be playing.

“I think I’m doing my best on the training ground and every time I play in the games. I am knocking on his door – I want to play, I want to start games, but he has a plan for everything. There is a reason why he’s the gaffer and I’m the football player.

“He’s a clever guy, he knows what he is doing.”

Moritz did not conplete the full 90 minutes in midweek as Freedman shuffled his pack to try and get back on level terms.

It did not pay off and resulted in a second successive 1-0 reverse.

But Moritz remains confident the team can get back on an unbeaten run similar to the eight-match streak that came to an end last weekend.

He added: “We need to keep the mindset we had and keep our heads straight.

“There are important games coming up, so that is what we need to focus on and forget about what happened “I don’t feel there is pressure on us. This is a league where anything can happen.

“We had a chance to get a point at the end (in the last two games) but unfortunately it didn’t happen as we expected it to happen.

“We’ll never go on a pitch to get one point, it will always be about three.

“That is what we will be trying to get against Doncaster at the weekend.”
