MARK Davies is in the “best condition of his whole career” and could now have a date in next weekend’s derby at Wigan Athletic.

Dougie Freedman is so impressed with the returning midfielder’s shape that he has not ruled out bringing him straight into the first team at the DW Stadium next Sunday.

Davies will play against Liverpool for the development squad tonight alongside Josh Vela, who is also returning after a long spell on the sidelines.

The Whites got back to winning ways with a comprehensive 3-0 win against Doncaster on Saturday and Freedman was happy to deliver some more good news after the final whistle.

“We all know he is a good player but he tells me he is in the best condition of his whole career,” said the Wanderers boss.

“He is really fit, he is trim and he is in better shape than he was when he did his knee.

“I am so pleased with the condition he is in and that's a big thank you to the medical team.

"Hopefully, he will play the full 90 against Liverpool tonight. He has trained with us for four or five weeks so don't be surprised. Come along to Wigan, it might just be the time.”
