WIGAN’S midweek European exit gave Dougie Freedman few clues as to how they will set up at the DW Stadium tomorrow.

A 2-1 defeat at Slovenian side NK Maribor saw Uwe Rosler rest key players Grant Holt and Ivan Ramis as they failed to progress in the Europa League.

Freedman is not reading anything into the performance, which also saw midfielder Chris McCann sent off, and has issued his players with instructions on how to contain some of the players Rosler could choose to select.

“It’s difficult because it’s an away game, they were set up differently and then you also had the sending off, which affected the game,” he said of the Maribor defeat.

“It is very difficult to plan for but what we’ve done this week is to try to look at the individuals and what they are going to do, then collectively put that together.

“In derby matches, more than any other, the focus is more on what we do.

“Our away performances have been quite good of late and if we can get the mixture of being nice and solid and organised along with the attacking threat we had at home against Doncaster, then it’s really all about us.”
