OFFICIALS from a Bolton boxing club are hoping for the perfect present – a few more belts to add to their impressive tally from 2013.

It has been a year to remember for Blackrod ABA with a host of their talented boxers competing for some of the best belts in the North West and nationally, but they don’t want to stop there.

Whazier Pasha is currently training with the England Talent squad.

The 18-year-old managed to get his hands on the North West Area Championship as well as holding the 71 to 75kg belt. The fledgling club has only been going for two years, but coaches have high hopes that they are going to continue on the glory trail.

Coach Stuart Greaves said: “Since we have started we have gone from strength to strength by having four North West area champions.

“Back in 2012, Anna Cresswell was the North West area champion and also a national semi-finalist.

“In that same year, Whazier was North West champion at the age of 17.

“This year, we have had our fair share of success with Jordan Battel becoming CYP national quarter-finalist while Whazier reached the national quarter-finals in his category.”

Battel currently holds the 57kg to 60kg category title and along with Pasha, Greaves believes that the pair will fly the flag in terms of success in 2014.

Greaves said: “Whazier was unlucky in the national championships as he lost out on points in a fight that we felt he should have won.

“Quite a few coaches thought he was robbed but decisions can go against you.

“Jordan is only 16, but we think he has a bright future ahead of him and, he suffered a defeat in the national quarter-finals.

“They will both come back better in 2014. “We have got seven carded boxers and hope to put on a show in February.

“We are lucky to have a professional – Ricky Godding from Bolton – in our ranks and his experience is great when it comes to doing sessions.”

Greaves added that they would not be able to enjoy success without the help of their sponsors and supporters.

He added: “Suzi Wong supplies the shorts to some of the UK’s other top boxers but she has provided them for our lads.”
