BOLTON running legend Malcolm Pittock is due to run his 100th Bolton parkrun tomorrow.

The 83-year-old completed his 99th running of the 5k course around Leverhulme Park on Saturday.

The veteran runner from Breightmet, seen by thousands of people running around the roads of Bolton for decades, plans to give up organised running events after completing tomorrow’s event.

The run - an extra parkrun - begins at 9am with Malcolm expected to finish at 10am.

Alistair McArthur, one of the organisers of the weekly timed event which is approaching its third anniversary, said: “We would like to encourage as many runners as possible to applaud Malcolm as he crosses the line.

“This is a remarkable achievement for someone of his age, but his sheer encouragement for other runners, politeness and sense of humour make it all the more important for us to celebrate.”

On Saturday’s 145th Bolton event there were 184 runners, of whom 12 were first timers, 19 new personal bests were set, and representatives of 24 different athletics clubs took part.
