DAVID Ngog saved a point with a 90th minute strike after Wanderers fought back from another horrific start against Middlesbrough.

The Frenchman, making his first appearance since December 3, pounced at the far post with only his second goal of the campaign.

Wanderers had only themselves to blame after conceding two goals inside the first 20 minutes but got back into it when Alex Baptiste curled home his fourth of the season on 29 minutes.

They pushed hard for an equaliser but looked to have blown their chance until Ngog came off the bench to grab the headlines.

The first half got off to a disastrous start when Zat Knight lost possession near halfway and Curtis Main was able to play in Mustapha Carayol, who curled a delightful shot around Andy Lonergan for the opening goal.

Things got even worse for Knight a few minutes later as he and Lonergan got in a ridiculous mix-up a few yards outside the Wanderers box, allowing Main to slide in a second goal.

Whites fans made their feelings heard and jeered the centre-half for his next few touches of the ball.

Things picked up from there, thankfully, and Alex Baptiste brought his side back into the game with his fourth strike of the season, curling home left-footed after some good work by Darren Pratley.

Chung-Yong Lee should have equalised when he picked up a poor pass from Shay Given, electing to pass across goal rather than shoot. Jay Spearing eventually blasted over but a good opportunity was wasted.

After the restart Joe Mason hit the side-netting as Wanderers continued to carve Boro open at the back.

Spearing also had a fizzing shot beaten away by Given but with no sign of the equalising goal, Freedman threw on both Andre Moritz and Jermaine Beckford.

Boro nearly extended their lead when Main’s goalbound header was deflected wide by Knight and then again moments later when ex-Wanderers loanee Jacob Butterfield curled a shot narrowly wide.

Chung-Yong Lee saw a penalty appeal turned down by referee Christopher Sarginson as he feel to the ground after a tangle with Ben Gibson and soon after, Freedman made his last roll of the dice in sending on David Ngog for the Korean as a second striker alongside Beckford.

Main wasted another good headed chance at the far post with eight minutes left on the clock, increasing the mood of frustration around the ground.

Beckford summed it all up with a woeful volley wide in the final few minutes after Ngog’s header had found him in space 10 yards out.

Just as fans were filing out of the ground after yet another home defeat, a cross was slung in by Eagles on the left that found its way to Ngog to lash in at the far post.
